Frase alternatives are worth a look if you want more AI engines at the entry price, a different kind of content editor, or agents that run more of the work. Frase rebuilt its platform in early 2026 and now runs one agent across research, writing, publishing and Content Guard, from $39 a month billed yearly. Its AI Visibility tracks 20 prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews on Starter, Perplexity starts on Professional, and Claude and Gemini need the $239 Scale plan.
These 10 Frase alternatives include content optimizers, brief tools, AI writers and an agentic AI search platform. Prices checked in November 2026.
How we compared these Frase alternatives
Most tools here are content optimizers, so we looked at the writing side and the AI search side together:
- What the editor, briefs and AI writer do, and whether anything gets published
- Which AI engines the entry plan tracks, how many prompts and how often
- Whether it reads Search Console and acts on what it finds, and the real monthly cost
We've used Writesonic and Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit hands-on. Frase, Surfer, Clearscope, NEURONwriter, MarketMuse, Content Harmony, Scalenut, the SEO Writing Assistant and PageOptimizer Pro aren't on our tested list, so we describe them from their pricing pages, docs, changelogs, archived pricing pages and user reviews. Review quotes are condensed from G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and WordPress.org and link to the original.
Orchly is our product. We held it to the same checks and say where it falls short. Checked November 2026.

1. Orchly: best agentic Frase alternative to rank in Google and AI answers
Orchly is an agentic AI search optimization platform. It tracks your brand every day in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, with Gemini, Google AI Mode, Claude, Grok and Microsoft Copilot as paid add-ons (it also tracks Meta AI and DeepSeek), and its agents run on their own, on a schedule.
They analyze your AI visibility, your competitors, your SEO and your Search Console and GA4 data, decide what to write and which pages to refresh, and write and refresh them in your brand voice. They keep Brand Brain up to date, find the sites, people and Reddit threads worth reaching, run the outreach and draft the replies, and audit your site for technical SEO and AI search issues with the fixes ranked. You decide whether each agent runs on its own or waits for your approval.
Frase runs one agent across research, writing, publishing and decay fixes, and leaves AI visibility as a monitor with recommendations. Orchly's agents run the whole loop, from AI answers to content, outreach and site fixes, from $49 a month.
Deeper AI visibility
- Engines. ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews from $49, with Gemini, AI Mode, Claude, Grok and Copilot as add-ons (Orchly also tracks Meta AI and DeepSeek). Frase Starter tracks ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews.
- Perception and fact check. The attributes and objections AI attaches to your brand, and AI claims checked against your Brand Brain.
- Mention Gap and fan-outs. Cited sources that skip you, and the background searches AI runs before answering.
Content driven by real data
- Content Agent. Runs on a schedule, uses AI citation gaps and your organic data to decide what to write and which pages to refresh, and writes in your brand voice. Drafts publish, directly or after your approval, to WordPress, Webflow, Framer, Wix, Sanity or Ghost.
- Search Console, GA4 and Page 360. Clicks, conversions and revenue per page from Search Console and GA4.
Off-site and technical work
- Activation Agent. Finds the publishers, people, Reddit threads and YouTube videos AI cites, runs the outreach from your inbox and drafts the Reddit replies.
- Site Health Agent. Audits your site for technical SEO and AI search issues and ranks the fixes by impact.
Where Orchly falls short
- Fewer articles at the top end. Frase Scale includes 100 articles a month. Orchly Pro includes 50.
- No hosted CMS. Frase offers FraseCMS hosting. Orchly publishes to your existing CMS.
- Fewer engines in the base price. Gemini, AI Mode, Claude, Grok and Copilot are paid add-ons on every Orchly plan. Frase Scale includes Claude and Gemini.
Orchly pricing
- Essential: $49/month for 25 prompts, 20 articles, 1 site and 1 user
- Pro: $125/month for 100 prompts, 50 articles, 3 sites and 5 users, with AI traffic analytics, custom agents and white-label reports
- Enterprise: custom, with a customer success manager
- There's a 7-day free trial, and yearly billing saves 25%.

2. Surfer: best live content editor
Surfer is a content optimization platform built around a live Content Editor and Content Score, with AI visibility tracking on its higher plans, which suits writers who want to optimize as they type. We haven't used Surfer ourselves, so this section draws on its pricing page, help docs and user reviews.
The editor is what most people buy it for. You write in Surfer or in Google Docs and WordPress, and the score moves as you add the terms and sections the top results cover.
The AI tracking depends on the plan. Standard at $99 a month checks 25 prompts on ChatGPT once a week, while Pro at $182 checks 50 prompts every day on ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini. There's also a standalone AI Search Analytics plan at $82 for teams that only want the tracking.
Next to Frase, Surfer gives you a more established editor but less of the publishing and refresh loop. Frase's agent drafts, publishes and patches decaying pages, while Surfer flags rank drops and offers one-click optimization, but you run each rewrite yourself.
Key features
- Content Editor and Content Score. Live scoring against the top results, with Google Docs, WordPress and Contentful integrations.
- AI visibility tracking. 25 weekly ChatGPT prompts on Standard, 50 daily prompts on five engines on Pro.
- Mention Gap and brand sentiment. On Pro and the AI Search Analytics plan.
- Search Console connection. Page tracking, rank drop detection and content ideas.
- Surfy and the Humanizer. An AI writing assistant plus an AI detector and humanizer on the content plans.
Where it falls short
- No Claude, Grok or Copilot on any plan.
- The $49 Discovery plan has no AI tracking, and Standard checks ChatGPT only once a week.
- No hosted CMS or automatic publishing of new articles.
User reviews
“The Content Editor is the standout. It makes it easy to structure an article and close gaps without guessing.” (Source)
“Simple interface and always up to date with AI trends, but the AI tracking still doesn't make full sense to us.” (Source)
“Our subscription went from €66 to over €230, and too often the recommendations just tell you to copy what competing pages already say.” (Source)
Pricing
- Discovery: $49/month billed yearly for 120 documents, with no AI tracking
- Standard: $99/month billed yearly for 360 documents and 25 weekly ChatGPT prompts
- Pro: $182/month billed yearly for 50 daily prompts on five AI engines and 5 brand spaces
- AI Search Analytics: $82/month billed yearly for tracking only. Monthly billing costs more, and Enterprise is custom.
3. Clearscope: best for simple grading
Clearscope is a content grading tool that scores drafts from F to A++ and tracks a set of queries in ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, with unlimited users on every plan, which suits editorial teams that hand briefs to many writers. We haven't used Clearscope ourselves, so this section is based on its pricing page, support docs and Capterra reviews.
Writers can stay in Google Docs or WordPress and see the grade update there, which is the main reason editors like it.
The AI side is small and fixed. Clearscope's product page lists query tracking in ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude (Claude was added in summer 2026; the pricing page still shows only the first two), plus the query fan-outs AI runs before answering. There's no Perplexity or AI Overviews, and Essentials includes 50 tracked queries.
Compared with Frase it does less of the work. There's no AI agent that drafts and publishes for you, and it costs more at the entry level, $129 a month against Frase's $49.
Key features
- Content grades. F to A++ against the terms and topics the top results cover.
- Google Docs add-on and WordPress plugin. Grades show up where writers already work.
- Query tracking. ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude mentions over time, with query fan-out data.
- Content Inventory. Connects to Search Console and shows grades and clicks for live pages.
- Unlimited users and projects on every plan, plus free onboarding.
Where it falls short
- 20 drafts a month on both Essentials and Business, with extra drafts sold in packs.
- AI tracking covers only ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude, with no Perplexity or AI Overviews.
- No writing agent or publishing.
User reviews
“Anyone can use it. You paste a report URL into Google Docs and start writing to its recommendations.” (Source)
“We optimized about 30 articles and saw a visible jump. The downside is the price, and pasting from the web version into WordPress drags the formatting along.” (Source)
“Great for client work, but too expensive for a freelancer to pay for themselves.” (Source)
Pricing
- Essentials: $129/month for 50 tracked queries, 50 pages, 20 Discoveries and 20 Drafts
- Business: $399/month for 300 tracked queries, 300 pages and 50 Discoveries, with an account manager
- Enterprise: custom, with SSO and custom credits
- There's a 14-day free trial and no contract.
4. NEURONwriter: best cheap editor
NEURONwriter is a low-cost NLP content editor that scores drafts against the top results from $23 a month and adds a small AI visibility tracker, which suits bloggers and freelancers who want a Surfer-style editor on a budget. We haven't used NEURONwriter ourselves, so this section draws on its pricing page, FAQ and Capterra reviews.
The editor and the content planner are the core. You pick a keyword, choose which competitor pages to learn from, and NEURONwriter suggests terms, questions and a target score.
The AI tracking is light. Every plan monitors 5 to 20 questions in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, and ChatGPT and Perplexity need the Advanced add-on, from $9 a month for 10 more questions.
Search Console, WordPress and Shopify integrations, unlimited team members and the API start on Gold at $69, so the $23 plan suits one person.
Key features
- NLP content editor. Term and question suggestions from the competitor pages you pick.
- AI Visibility Standard. 5 to 20 monitored questions in AI Overviews and AI Mode, by plan.
- AI Visibility Advanced add-on. Adds ChatGPT and Perplexity, from $9 a month.
- Content Designer and AI templates. Drafts and rewrites using AI credits, from Gold.
- Integrations. Search Console, WordPress and Shopify, plus API and MCP access, from Gold.
Where it falls short
- ChatGPT tracking is a paid add-on on every plan.
- Bronze and Silver have read-only sharing and no Search Console or WordPress connection.
- No agent that writes, publishes or refreshes pages on a schedule.
User reviews
“Research that used to take an hour now takes ten minutes, but the interface feels dated and slows down on longer documents.” (Source)
“SERP analysis and scoring make SEO measurable. I use it to push AI drafts past an 80 score before publishing.” (Source)
“Clear suggestions, but the subscription is a bit expensive for casual users.” (Source)
Pricing
- Bronze: $23/month for 2 projects, 25 documents and 5 AI-monitored questions
- Silver: $45/month for 5 projects, 50 documents and 7 questions
- Gold: $69/month for 10 projects, 75 documents, 10 questions, unlimited team members and integrations
- Yearly billing gives 2 months free, and the 7-day free trial runs on Gold.
5. MarketMuse: best for topic strategy
MarketMuse is a content strategy platform, now part of Siteimprove, that models topic coverage across your whole site and scores pages on personalized difficulty and topic authority, which suits content strategists planning what to write next. We haven't used MarketMuse ourselves, so this section is based on its pricing page, Siteimprove announcements and Capterra reviews.
The site inventory is the reason to pick it. MarketMuse tracks your pages and topics on its own, then tells you how hard each topic is for your site in particular, rather than for a generic domain.
It doesn't track AI answers. Siteimprove added AEO insights to its separate Siteimprove.ai Search product in April 2026, but MarketMuse's own plans list briefs, inventory and strategy documents only.
Paid plans are sold through a demo, with no prices on the page. A free plan with 10 queries a month lets you try the research tools first.
Key features
- Site inventory. Pages, topics and page and topic pairs, updated automatically.
- Personalized Difficulty and Topic Authority. How hard a topic is for your site, and where you're strong.
- Content Briefs. Nine brief types on Strategy, including comparison, listicle and product review.
- Content Score. A target score from MarketMuse's topic model for each focus topic.
- Strategy documents. 1, 3 or 5 a month, depending on plan.
Where it falls short
- No AI visibility tracking in MarketMuse itself.
- No published prices for paid plans.
- No publishing to a CMS.
User reviews
“I've used it for over a year and still don't understand how some things are supposed to work. Frase is far more user-friendly.” (Source)
“Not the cheapest, but the price is justified by the quality and freshness of the data.” (Source)
“It's built for deep pillar content. Expect to spend a few days on the tutorials before it clicks.” (Source)
Pricing
- Free: 1 user and 10 queries a month
- Optimize: demo only, 1 user, 100 tracked topics and 5 briefs a month
- Research: demo only, 3 users, 1,000 tracked topics and 10 briefs a month
- Strategy: demo only, 5 users, 10,000 tracked topics and 20 briefs a month
6. Content Harmony: best for briefs
Content Harmony is a content brief tool priced by how many pieces you publish, starting at $50 a month for 5 content workflows with unlimited users, which suits agencies and in-house teams that brief outside writers. We haven't used Content Harmony ourselves, so this section draws on its pricing page, product updates and Capterra reviews.
Each workflow bundles a keyword report, a content brief and a content grader for one page. Credits roll over for 90 days, so a slow month doesn't waste them.
It's the most focused tool on this list. There's no AI visibility tracking, no AI writer for full articles and no publishing, though keyword reports now show the AI Overviews spotted in search results.
The $10 trial is a sensible way in. It buys 10 workflows with no time limit and no automatic billing.
Key features
- Content workflows. Keyword report, brief and grader for each page you plan.
- Search intent analysis. SERP features and the AI Overviews in the results, inside each keyword report.
- AI Suggested Headings. Outline ideas you can accept into the brief.
- Unlimited users and projects on every plan.
- Rollover credits. Monthly credits stay valid for 90 days.
Where it falls short
- No AI visibility tracking.
- No full-article writer or CMS publishing.
- Pricing climbs with volume, to $299 a month for 50 workflows.
User reviews
“At $10 for the trial you can't afford not to try it. We switched from SurferSEO and see no reason to go back.” (Source)
“Our briefs are far more detailed now, but Google Docs integration isn't built out like some competitors'. Copy and paste works.” (Source)
“Pricing took some getting over and the interface could use an upgrade, but it's proved cost-efficient.” (Source)
Pricing
- Standard 5: $50/month (about $42 billed yearly) for 5 content workflows
- Standard 12: $99/month for 12 workflows
- Standard 25: $199/month for 25 workflows, with larger plans up to 150 and Enterprise from $1,000
- The trial is $10 for 10 workflows, with no time limit.
7. Writesonic: best for writing volume
Writesonic is an AI writing and GEO platform that tracks your brand in AI answers and writes 15 to 50 articles a month for WordPress, which suits content teams that want more writing volume than Frase and a bigger prompt allowance at entry.
We signed up and had tracking running in a few minutes. You pick topics, trim the suggested prompts, add competitors, and citation share starts filling in daily.
The volume is the reason to look at it. Starter tracks 50 prompts a day against Frase Starter's 20, and includes 15 articles a month against Frase's 10. Articles publish to WordPress, and Reddit and Search Console feed the topic ideas.
What held us back was the engine list. Every self-serve plan tracks only ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews, so Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and AI Mode need Enterprise. Self-serve prices are also quoted for yearly billing.
Key features
- AI articles. 15, 25 or 50 a month, published to WordPress.
- Daily AI tracking. 50, 100 or 200 prompts on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews.
- Site audits. 10 to 50 a month, depending on plan.
- Action Center. Fixes re-measured on day 14 and day 28, as a trial on Growth and in full on Enterprise.
- MCP server and Project Hub, added in June 2026.
Where it falls short
- Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and AI Mode are Enterprise only.
- Sentiment starts on Growth at $399.
- Starter includes 1 user and 1 project.
User reviews
“Instead of a blank page I get a structured draft and spend my time making it match our brand voice.” (Source)
“On technical topics the content gets repetitive, and I have to polish it to make it unique.” (Source)
“Some features take a while to give the result you expect.” (Source)
Pricing
- Starter: $79/month billed yearly ($99 monthly) for 50 prompts, 15 articles and 1 user
- Basic: $199/month billed yearly for 100 prompts, 25 articles and 2 users
- Growth: $399/month billed yearly for 200 prompts, 50 articles, 3 users and sentiment
- Enterprise is custom, with all 9 AI platforms. You can start free with no card.
8. Scalenut: best budget all-in-one
Scalenut is an AI content platform that bundles GEO article writing, content optimization, weekly AI visibility tracking and WordPress or Shopify publishing from $59 a month, which suits small teams that want a Frase-style bundle with a Reddit outreach tool added. We haven't used Scalenut ourselves, so this section is based on its pricing page and Trustpilot reviews.
The bundle is close to Frase's. Starter writes 5 GEO articles, optimizes 5 existing ones and tracks 10 prompts in ChatGPT and AI Overviews, and Plus at $89 adds auto-publishing, internal linking and Social Upreach, which watches subreddits for threads to join.
Tracking refreshes weekly on every plan, against daily on Frase, and Perplexity only arrives on Professional at $199.
There's a Black Friday early access deal on the page right now, 65% off yearly plans with triple limits, but it's non-refundable and annual only. Several Trustpilot reviewers also complain about billing and refunds.
Key features
- GEO article writer. 5, 30 or 75 articles a month, and the same number of optimizations.
- AI visibility tracking. 10, 25 or 100 prompts, refreshed weekly.
- Auto-publish to WordPress and Shopify, from Plus.
- Social Upreach. Keywords, subreddits and competitors to watch on Reddit, from Plus.
- GEO content audit and cannibalization analysis. 200 to 1,000 pages a month.
Where it falls short
- Weekly AI tracking on every plan.
- Perplexity only on Professional, and no Claude or Gemini.
- Starter has one workspace and no auto-publishing.
User reviews
“Confusing at first, but worth learning. The AI tools and SEO insights helped my content strategy.” (Source)
“I was billed for a full year without a day's notice, and the manage subscription link didn't let me change anything.” (Source)
“I asked to cancel within the first week and was told they'd keep 10% of the refund for payment fees.” (Source)
Pricing
- Starter: $59/month for 10 prompts, 5 articles and 1 workspace
- Plus: $89/month for 25 prompts, 30 articles, 2 workspaces and 4 team members
- Professional: $199/month for 100 prompts, Perplexity, 75 articles and unlimited workspaces
- 7-day free trial with no card. The current yearly deal is $21, $31 or $70 a month, non-refundable.
9. Semrush SEO Writing Assistant: best for Semrush users
The Semrush SEO Writing Assistant is a content scoring add-on for Google Docs, WordPress and Microsoft Word that grades drafts on SEO, readability, originality and tone using Semrush's keyword data, which suits teams already paying for Semrush.
We tested Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit for other reviews, not the Writing Assistant, so this section is based on the Semrush help center and the plugin's WordPress.org reviews.
It's part of the SEO toolkit, so there's nothing to buy separately if you already have the right plan. For smaller teams, the limits matter. The help center still lists them by the older plan names, with 2 documents per account on Pro and unlimited documents on Guru and Business.
AI visibility lives elsewhere in Semrush. Semrush One plans from $199 include 50 tracked prompts, and the AI Visibility Toolkit is $99 a month per domain. When we tested the toolkit, Prompt Research was the part we used most, but 25 prompts per domain felt tight.
Key features
- Real-time scoring. SEO, readability, originality and tone of voice for each draft.
- Add-ons for Google Docs, WordPress and Microsoft Word 365.
- Keyword recommendations from Semrush's database for your target keywords.
- Compose, Rephrase and Ask AI. AI writing tools that use Smart Writer Words.
- Plagiarism checker. 3 checks in total on Pro, 5 or 10 a month on higher tiers.
Where it falls short
- Scores against Google results, with no AI answer data in the editor.
- 2 documents per account on the entry tier, per the help center.
- AI writing allowances are small, from 500 words in total on Pro.
User reviews
“If you already have a subscription it's worth it. I can optimize pages without copying content into Semrush, and it tells me more than Yoast does.” (Source)
“It shows us what we forgot to include, but the backlink suggestions are rarely useful.” (Source)
“You can only use it once unless you're on the expensive Guru plan.” (Source)
Pricing
- SEO plan: $139/month, or $117.33 billed yearly
- Semrush One Starter: $199/month with 50 AI prompts, or $299 for Pro+ with 100
- AI Visibility Toolkit: $99/month per domain, billed yearly
- Semrush has a free plan with limited data, and paid plans start with a 7-day trial.
10. PageOptimizer Pro: best for technical on-page SEO
PageOptimizer Pro (POP) is an on-page SEO tool built on ranking-factor tests that tells you exactly where to place keywords, variations and entities, and it includes an AI Visibility Tracker on every plan, which suits technical SEOs who want detailed page-level instructions. We haven't used POP ourselves, so this section draws on its pricing page, product pages and Capterra reviews.
POP's reports are more granular than Frase's scores. You get exact keyword counts by page section, word count targets, E-E-A-T signals, Google NLP entities and schema suggestions, and Watchdog warns you when a page slips.
The AI Visibility Tracker covers ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Each run costs 3 credits plus 1 per question, and you choose a single run or a weekly or monthly refresh.
Credits are the thing to watch. Basic includes 20 a month, a new report costs 2 and the AI writer 3 per 1,000 words, so the Unlimited plan at $62 billed yearly is the realistic starting point.
Key features
- POP Rank Engine reports. Exact keyword, variation and LSI placement for each page.
- AI Visibility Tracker. ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, paid in credits.
- POP AI Writer. New pages or rewrites, cheaper in credits with your own OpenAI key.
- Watchdog. Monitors 10, 200 or 500 pages for changes and drops.
- E-E-A-T, Google NLP and schema tools, plus a Chrome extension for Google Docs and WordPress.
Where it falls short
- Credits run out fast on Basic.
- Recommendations target Google rankings first.
- No publishing or hosted CMS.
User reviews
“We've seen better results for our clients, but on the cheaper package the credits go quickly. It's still cheaper than the alternatives.” (Source)
“I wish the score updated as I edit instead of making me click refresh every time.” (Source)
“The only thing I don't like is that the AI features need a lot of credits.” (Source)
Pricing
- Basic: $40/month for 20 credits and 10 Watchdog pages
- Unlimited: $72/month, or $62 billed yearly, for unlimited POP reports and 50 credits
- Teams: $143/month, or $119 billed yearly, for 120 credits, 5 sub-accounts and white-label PDFs
- Every plan has a 7-day refund guarantee, and extra credits start at $15 for 10.
What changed with Frase in 2026
Frase spent 2026 rebuilding the product and changing its plans. Here's what's different, with dates from Frase's changelog, blog and archived pricing pages.
- February 2: Frase announced a new platform rebuilt from scratch, with an AI agent that runs research, writing and optimization from plain-language requests, plus site audits.
- Plans and prices: A January 15 snapshot of the pricing page listed Starter from $38, Professional at $98 and Scale at $195, with 250 tracked prompts on Scale across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. By May it showed Starter at $49, Professional at $129 and Scale at $299 a month, or $39, $103 and $239 billed yearly, and Scale now tracks 75 prompts.
- May: Content Guard, which watches live pages for Google decay and proposes fixes, and 16 content types with GEO scoring for each, plus Wix publishing.
- June 24: Frase Answers, a free widget that answers visitors' questions on your site and logs them as content ideas.
- September: a new writer, a rebuilt site audit, a Backlinks tool with outreach drafts, GA4 AI referrals and a hosted MCP server.
- October: an official ChatGPT app (October 7) and a rebuilt AI Visibility area with recommendations, sentiment, location tracking and scheduled PDF reports (October 21).
- Lifetime deals: Frase kept the legacy app running for lifetime-deal customers and offered them discounted access to the new platform. Some of them say on Trustpilot that this broke the lifetime promise, and one AppSumo buyer reported in April that 10 accounts stopped working.
