12 Best AI Search Monitoring Tools in 2026 (Compared)

The best AI search monitoring tools in November 2026 are Orchly, Peec AI, Otterly.AI, Profound and the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, with Ahrefs Brand Radar, Scrunch, AthenaHQ, ZipTie, SE Visible, Similarweb and Knowatoa for narrower jobs. We judged all 12 on the cheapest plan that monitors your brand: its price, engines, prompts, refresh rate, whether it shows sentiment and citations, and what it does with the findings.

The hard part is trusting the numbers, because AI answers change from one run to the next and API answers differ from what people see. Prices checked in November 2026.

Editor's note

How we checked these AI search monitoring tools

We've run Peec AI, Otterly.AI, Profound, Scrunch, SE Visible and the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit on their trials or entry plans. For this list we went back to every pricing page and noted:

  • The engines and prompts you get on the cheapest plan that monitors anything
  • How often answers refresh, and whether you see sentiment and citations
  • Whether the tool does anything with what it finds, and what that costs

Ahrefs Brand Radar has no trial, and AthenaHQ, ZipTie, Similarweb and Knowatoa aren't on our tested list, so for those we went by pricing pages, docs and reviews. Review quotes are condensed from G2 and OMR and link to the original.

Orchly is our product. We held it to the same checks and say where it falls short. Checked November 2026.

1. Orchly: best AI search monitoring tool that also improves your visibility

Orchly AI visibility overview showing AI Visibility Score, Share of Voice, sentiment, average position and a competitor leaderboard
Orchly's AI visibility overview

Orchly is an agentic AI search optimization platform. It monitors your brand every day in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, reading answers from the engines' real interfaces rather than an API, in the country you set for each prompt. Gemini, Google AI Mode, Claude, Grok and Microsoft Copilot are paid add-ons, and it also tracks Meta AI and DeepSeek.

For every prompt it records whether you're mentioned, your position, the sentiment and every source cited, next to your competitors. Then its agents run on their own, on a schedule. They analyze your AI visibility, your competitors, your SEO and your Search Console and GA4 data, decide what to write and which pages to refresh, and do it in your brand voice. They keep Brand Brain up to date, find the sites, people and Reddit threads worth reaching, run the outreach and draft the replies, and audit your site for technical SEO and AI search issues with the fixes ranked.

That matters more than it sounds. In a Surfer study of August 2026 data across five AI products, the brands named in API answers and in the real interface overlapped only 15.5% to 23.8%.

What you can see

  • Four headline metrics. AI Visibility Score, Share of Voice, average sentiment and average position, each tracked over time and against competitors, by engine and by topic.
  • Prompts split by brand and intent. Branded vs non-branded, and commercial, informational or transactional. A drop in non-branded commercial prompts is the one to worry about.

Prompts by topic, brand type and intent
  • Prompt research. Orchly suggests prompts from your market, site and competitors, so you monitor the questions buyers ask rather than the ones you guessed.

  • Citations and Mention Gap. Every domain and URL AI cites, split by owner and source type. Mention Gap then shows the cited sources that name your competitors but not you.

Monitoring that goes past sentiment

  • Perception. The attributes AI links to your brand, how competitors compare on each one, and the objections AI raises when buyers ask about you.

  • Fact check. Every claim AI makes about you is checked against your Brand Brain, a record of your real products, pricing and positioning. Contradictions are flagged for review.

Traffic, not just mentions

When you're ready to act

Most tools on this list give you a monitoring dashboard and a to-do list. Orchly's agents run the work end to end: the Content Agent writes and refreshes pages for the prompts you lose, the Activation Agent runs outreach to the sources AI cites, and the Site Health Agent audits technical SEO and AI search issues and ranks the fixes. You decide whether each agent runs on its own or waits for your approval.

Where Orchly falls short

  • Three engines included. ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews come with every plan. Gemini, AI Mode, Claude, Grok and Copilot are paid add-ons, where Otterly.AI includes Copilot and AthenaHQ's free plan includes Gemini.
  • No prompt volume estimates. You can see which prompts matter to your market, but not how often each one is asked.
  • Small entry plan. 25 prompts and 1 user on Essential.

Orchly pricing

  • Essential: $49/month for 25 prompts refreshed daily, 20 articles, 1 site and 1 user
  • Pro: $125/month for 100 prompts, 50 articles, 3 sites and 5 users, with AI traffic analytics, custom agents and white-label reports
  • Enterprise: custom, with unlimited users and websites
  • Gemini, AI Mode, Claude, Grok and Copilot are paid add-ons. There's a 7-day free trial, and yearly billing saves 25%.

2. Peec AI: best pure monitoring tool

Peec AI dashboard showing brand visibility across AI engines

Peec AI is an AI search analytics platform that monitors your brand daily in 3 AI engines of your choice from $95 (€85) a month, with visibility, position, sentiment and citations for every prompt, which suits teams that want clean monitoring data and unlimited seats.

We signed up and ran it on our usual buyer prompts. Setup took a few minutes. Peec read our site, suggested prompts, and visibility, position and sentiment against competitors filled in for each model.

Peec collects answers by scraping the interfaces people use. The sources view was the part we kept coming back to, with every cited domain labelled owned, editorial, reference or UGC, so you can see which sites to work on.

The model picker is the thing to understand before you buy. Starter, Pro and Advanced let you pick 3 of ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini and Naver AI. Perplexity is an extra model, and Claude, Grok and DeepSeek are Enterprise only.

Key features

  • Daily tracking. Visibility, position, sentiment and share of voice for every prompt.
  • Source analytics. Cited domains and URLs, classified by type and split by model.
  • Brand Perception and AI Referrals. How AI describes you, and GA4 sessions, conversions and revenue from AI engines, since September 2026.
  • Actions and Peec Agent. Ranked fixes from your data, and since October 22, 2026, an agent that drafts briefs and page edits.
  • Unlimited users on every plan, plus an MCP server.

Where it falls short

  • 3 models per plan, and Perplexity costs extra.
  • Claude, Grok and DeepSeek need Enterprise.
  • The agent drafts, but publishing and outreach stay with your team.

User reviews

We've quoted most of Peec AI's reviews in earlier comparisons, so we kept this to two, with parts we hadn't leaned on.

“I check the trend lines every day, and the source and citation view helps us work toward stronger brand visibility.” (Source)

“It can be hard to attribute the actions we've taken to changes in our AI search results.” (Source)

Pricing

  • Starter: $95/month (€85) for 50 prompts on 3 models, daily, 1 project
  • Pro: $245/month (€205) for 150 prompts and 2 projects
  • Advanced: $495/month (€425) for 350 prompts, 5 projects and multi-country tracking
  • Extra models such as Perplexity cost more. Yearly billing saves 15%, and there's a free trial.

3. Otterly.AI: best low-cost monitoring

Otterly.AI brand monitoring dashboard for AI search

Otterly.AI is a low-cost AI search monitoring tool that checks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot every day from $29 a month, with sentiment and citation tracking, which suits founders and small teams that want monitoring without a big contract.

We signed up and added our brand. Otterly built a competitor list and suggested prompts, and the first report was ready in about 15 minutes.

The dashboard shows coverage, position and sentiment against competitors, and the Brand Visibility Index sorts every brand into Leaders, Niche or Low Performance. We liked opening a prompt and seeing the answer as the engine wrote it, with the cited domains grouped by category.

Lite's 15 prompts go quickly, though, and the next step is $189. Gemini, AI Mode and Claude are paid add-ons, and ChatGPT ads reporting has been paused since September 16, 2026, while shopping cards are still tracked.

Key features

  • 4 engines included, checked daily, with Gemini, AI Mode and Claude as add-ons.
  • Brand Visibility Index and sentiment against competitors.
  • Citation tracking with domain categories and changes over time.
  • GEO URL audits and recommendations, capped at 3 recommendations a week on Lite.
  • Agent Analytics from server logs since August 2026, plus API and MCP access from Standard.

Where it falls short

  • 15 prompts on Lite, then a big jump to $189.
  • Gemini, AI Mode and Claude cost extra on every plan.
  • No content writing or outreach.

User reviews

“You see at a glance whether and how often your brand shows up in AI answers.” (Source)

“I get a daily overview of our visibility across the big AI chatbots in seconds, but a few tweaks are still needed, like duplicate brand names in the ranking.” (Source)

“Automated prompt testing across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Gemini saves a lot of time. Content creation and recommendations are missing.” (Source)

Pricing

  • Lite: $29/month for 15 prompts and 1 workspace
  • Standard: $189/month for 100 prompts, with API and MCP access
  • Premium: $489/month for 400 prompts
  • Yearly billing saves 15%, seats are unlimited, and there's a free trial with no card.

4. Profound: best for enterprise monitoring

Profound answer engine insights dashboard

Profound is an enterprise AI visibility platform that monitors up to 9 answer engines on custom Enterprise contracts, with mentions, sentiment, citations and Prompt Volumes, which suits large brands that want monitoring and AI agents under one contract.

We tested it on the 7-day trial. Profound picked 50 prompts for our industry, we couldn't edit them, and only ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews ran. It gave us a good feel for the interface, but not for our own buyers' questions.

Profound captures answers through the engines' front-end interfaces. On Enterprise, the engines are ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude, AI Overviews and Exa, which replaced Grok in September 2026.

Since September 2026 there's no self-serve plan for brands. The $99 Starter and $399 Growth tiers are gone, so you buy through sales. Agencies still have a self-serve Agency Growth plan.

Key features

  • Answer Engine Insights. Mentions, position, sentiment and citations per engine.
  • Prompt Volumes. Estimates of how often topics are asked, from more than 1.5 billion prompts in 35 countries.
  • Agent Analytics. How AI crawlers visit your site.
  • AI Marketer agents, priced in credits, with Context Manager for brand facts.

Where it falls short

  • Brands can only buy Enterprise, so there's no public price.
  • The trial runs prompts Profound picks, on 3 engines, with no history or export.
  • The API, exports and SSO are Enterprise only.

User reviews

Most of Profound's G2 reviews are already in our other comparisons, so we kept this to two.

“The dashboards save a lot of time compared with checking several AI tools by hand.” (Source)

“The price can put you off at first, especially if you're not a large company.” (Source)

Pricing

  • Trial: free for 7 days, with 50 prompts run daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews
  • Enterprise: custom, with up to 9 answer engines and AI Marketer credits
  • Agency Growth: self-serve for agencies, priced per client workspace

5. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: best for SEO teams on Semrush

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit brand performance report

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit monitors your brand in ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini daily, and adds Perplexity in weekly Brand Performance reports, from $99 a month per domain billed annually, which suits SEO teams already working in Semrush.

We used the AI Visibility Toolkit ourselves. You click AI in the left menu, enter your domain and get an AI Visibility Score out of 100, which is easy to explain to a manager.

There are two parts, and they refresh differently. Prompt Tracking runs your own prompts daily inside Position Tracking. Brand Performance uses prompts Semrush generates, updates weekly, and is where share of voice, sentiment and cited sources live. Semrush says responses come from real requests, not LLM APIs.

The allowance is what held us back. $99 buys 25 prompts for one domain, and each extra domain is another $99.

Key features

  • Prompt Tracking. Daily positions in ChatGPT Search, AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini.
  • Brand Performance. Share of voice, sentiment and citations, weekly, with Perplexity added.
  • Prompt Research. Volume and intent estimates from 317 million+ prompts.
  • AI search site audit for crawler access and AI readiness.

Where it falls short

  • 25 prompts per domain on the toolkit.
  • Sentiment and share of voice update weekly, not daily.
  • Each user needs a license, and it recommends changes without making them.

User reviews

Few Semrush reviews are about the AI toolkit, and we've quoted both of these before, so we picked different parts.

“The AI Visibility score has a granular breakdown, which makes it much easier to understand what's changing and why.” (Source)

“Updates are mostly weekly, and coverage for Claude, Copilot and Grok is limited or Enterprise-only.” (Source)

Pricing

  • AI Visibility Toolkit: $99/month per domain for 25 prompts, billed annually
  • Semrush One Starter: $199/month with 50 tracked prompts
  • Semrush One Pro+: $299/month with 100 tracked prompts
  • There's no standalone trial for the toolkit. The trial comes through Semrush One.

6. Ahrefs Brand Radar: best for category-wide monitoring

Ahrefs Brand Radar AI mentions and share of voice

Ahrefs Brand Radar is an AI visibility research tool that monitors how any brand shows up across an index of about 496 million prompts, from $199 a month for one AI platform, which suits teams that want to see a whole category before tracking their own prompts. Ahrefs has no trial for it, so this section is based on its product page, FAQ and reviews.

Brand Radar works differently from the other tools here. Ahrefs builds prompts from real searches in its keyword database, runs them through the chatbots' web interfaces and stores the answers. The chatbot index is re-tested monthly, and AI Overviews every few days.

That makes it good for research. You can look up any brand, see where it's mentioned or cited, and compare it with competitors without writing a prompt.

For your own prompts you buy custom prompt checks, run daily to monthly. You can buy Brand Radar on a free Ahrefs account, and every paid Ahrefs plan includes a few daily custom prompts.

Key features

  • Prompt index. About 496 million modeled prompts across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot.
  • Brand lookups. Mentions and citations for any brand, with no setup.
  • Custom prompts, checked daily to monthly, with Claude available here.
  • Ties to search demand. Every prompt maps back to keywords in Ahrefs' database.

Where it falls short

  • The index is modeled and re-tested monthly, so it isn't live monitoring of your prompts.
  • Each platform is $199 a month, and custom prompts cost extra.
  • Grok tracking is paused, and there's no content writing, outreach or client-ready report export.

User reviews

Few Ahrefs reviews cover Brand Radar, and we've quoted both before.

“Brand Radar covers several LLMs, countries and languages, but the metrics change retroactively with every index update.” (Source)

“It's easy to find trending AI Overview queries, though the data was still in beta and could be inaccurate.” (Source)

Pricing

  • One platform: $199/month
  • All six platforms: $699/month, with 2,500 custom prompt checks
  • Custom prompt packs: from $50/month for 2,500 checks
  • There's no free trial.

7. Scrunch: best for monitoring AI crawlers

Scrunch AI visibility and AI agent traffic dashboard

Scrunch, now part of Sitecore, is an AI visibility platform that monitors ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and Copilot on its $250 Core plan and shows how AI bots crawl your site, which suits technical marketing teams.

We used it on the 7-day trial. Onboarding is guided. Scrunch drafts a brand description from your site, you confirm it, add competitors, a persona and your topics, and start from five suggested prompts.

Citations, sources and sentiment come with Core. Agent Traffic, which shows AI crawlers on your pages once you connect your CDN or host, is what sets it apart. Scrunch also connects GA4 to show the referral traffic AI sends.

Know the refresh rate before you compare. New prompts run daily for their first 14 days, then every 72 hours, so it isn't a daily monitor once things settle. You can refresh by hand at any time.

Key features

  • 4 engines on Core. ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and Copilot, with 5,000 responses a month.
  • Citations, sentiment and competitor position for every prompt.
  • Agent Traffic. AI bot visits from your CDN or host.
  • Site audits and recommendations. 5 audits and 1 page optimization a month on Core.

Where it falls short

  • Prompts drop to every 72 hours after 14 days.
  • Claude, Gemini, AI Mode, Grok and Meta AI are Enterprise only.
  • One country, language and persona on Core.

User reviews

Scrunch's G2 reviews have been quoted in many of our comparisons, so we kept this to two parts we hadn't used.

“I rely on it for regular reporting and for benchmarking our brand mentions and citations against competitors.” (Source)

“We screenshot the charts for our reports because we can't export the graphics, which leads to inconsistencies.” (Source)

Pricing

  • Core: $250/month for 125 prompts, 5,000 responses and 5 user licenses
  • Enterprise: custom, with 9 engines, AXP, the API and SSO
  • There's a 7-day free trial.

8. AthenaHQ: best for monitoring many engines

AthenaHQ AI search visibility dashboard

AthenaHQ is an AI search visibility platform that monitors 5 engines on a free plan and 11 models from $295 a month, with mention rate, share of voice and citations by model, which suits teams that want wide engine coverage from one dashboard. We haven't used AthenaHQ ourselves, so this section is based on its pricing page, docs and G2 reviews.

Pricing runs on credits, and one credit is one AI response. The free Essential plan gives you 300 a month across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot, which is enough to learn the dashboard, but not to monitor many prompts every day.

Starter adds AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral, with 3,600 credits a month. AthenaHQ doesn't publish a refresh rate, since how often prompts run depends on how you spend credits.

Its docs describe a dashboard with share of voice, mention rate, average position and citation rate by model, each linked to the stored answers, plus a Sources view split into owned, competitor and third-party pages.

Key features

  • 5 engines free, 11 models on Starter.
  • Credits. One per AI response, 300 a month free, 3,600 on Starter.
  • Sources and Brand Traits. Who gets cited and how models describe you.
  • Content optimization agent on Starter.
  • Unlimited seats on every plan.

Where it falls short

  • 300 credits run out fast across five engines.
  • The jump from free to $295 is steep.
  • Self-serve plans cover one country, and the recommendation engine is Enterprise only.

User reviews

Almost every AthenaHQ review on G2 has been quoted in our other comparisons, so we've kept this to two.

“Mention rate, citation rate and share of voice are all visible without three clicks to get there.” (Source)

“There's a lot going on in the platform, and it can feel a little overwhelming to learn every corner of it.” (Source)

Pricing

  • Essential: free, 300 credits a month on 5 engines
  • Starter: $295/month for 3,600 credits on 11 models
  • Enterprise: custom, with personas, multiple regions and SSO
  • Annual billing brings Starter to about $245 a month.

9. ZipTie: best for AI Overviews next to organic results

ZipTie is a pay-per-check AI search monitor that records mentions, citations and sentiment, and captures the top 10 organic results next to every AI Overview, with presets from $25.65 a month, which suits SEOs who want Google's AI answers and organic rankings side by side. We haven't used ZipTie ourselves, so this section is based on its pricing page and reviews.

There are no tiers. You build a plan from prompt counts, how often they run (daily, weekly or monthly) and how many engines you add, at about a cent a check. Seats, projects and competitors are unlimited.

The Starter preset covers 30 daily prompts on 3 engines. You can add Perplexity, AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot and Bing AI Overview at the same rate, but Claude and Grok aren't offered, and which engines run depends on each project's country.

You can connect Search Console to see clicks and impressions next to the AI data, and white-label reports come with every plan.

Key features

  • 7 engines at one price, including AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot and Bing AI Overview.
  • Organic top 10 captured with every AI Overview check.
  • Cadence per prompt pool. Daily, weekly or monthly.
  • Search Console data and white-label reports on every plan.

Where it falls short

  • No Claude or Grok.
  • The API, MCP and content generation are paid add-ons.
  • No refunds on paid plans.

User reviews

ZipTie has one written review we could find, and we've quoted it before.

“It helps me show clients how their sites perform in AI, but sometimes my projects don't populate, with no clear reason why.” (Source)

Pricing

  • Starter preset: from $25.65/month for 30 daily prompts on 3 engines
  • Professional preset: from $340.20/month
  • Enterprise preset: from $1,647/month
  • Yearly billing saves 20%. The 7-day free trial needs no card and covers ChatGPT, AI Overviews and Copilot.

10. SE Visible: best for monitoring many brands

SE Ranking AI search visibility report

SE Visible is SE Ranking's AI visibility tool that monitors ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode and AI Overviews daily, with 200 prompts pooled across 3 projects for $99 a month, which suits agencies and teams that track several brands.

We used the 10-day trial. Setup asked for a brand name, up to five topics, and a country and language. After the first scan it suggested competitors and other names for our brand, which saved some typing.

Checks run in browser sessions, and prompts are pooled across projects, about 30,000 AI answers a month on Basic. Each answer is shown as the engine wrote it, with mentions, links and the sentiment of each mention.

Honestly, the dashboard was ready for a client call without extra work. What it doesn't do is act. There's no content writing or outreach, and Perplexity isn't tracked.

Key features

  • 4 engines on every plan, checked daily.
  • 200 prompts on Basic, pooled across 3 projects.
  • Answer-level view with mentions, links and sentiment.
  • Competitor Gap Analysis. Prompts where competitors appear and you don't, since July 2026.
  • API on every plan, plus CSV and XLSX exports.

Where it falls short

  • No Perplexity, and Claude is still marked coming soon.
  • No PDF or white-label reports.
  • It tracks and reports, with no content or outreach.

User reviews

SE Visible has no reviews on G2 or Capterra yet, so we have no user quotes to share.

Pricing

  • Basic: $99/month for 200 prompts and 3 projects
  • Core: $189/month for 450 prompts and 5 projects
  • Plus: $355/month for 1,000 prompts and 10 projects
  • Yearly billing saves 20%, and there's a 10-day free trial.

11. Similarweb AI Brand Visibility: best for AI referral traffic data

Similarweb's AI Brand Visibility monitors ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Mode daily for 150 prompts from $99 a month billed yearly, and adds AI referral traffic estimates for any site, which suits analysts who want visibility next to market traffic data. We haven't used Similarweb's AI tools ourselves, so this section is based on its pricing page, knowledge base and product pages.

Similarweb says its prompt data is built from real user AI searches, grouped by topic, and that responses are refreshed and recorded every day. That makes the prompt list closer to what people ask than one you write yourself.

The AI Traffic report is what sets it apart. It estimates how much traffic ChatGPT and other chatbots send to your site and to competitors, and which pages people land on.

Every package has one user, and the entry plan keeps 3 months of history.

Key features

  • AI Brand Visibility. Visibility and mention share in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Mode, refreshed daily.
  • Prompt Analysis. Prompts drawn from real AI searches in the topics you track.
  • AI Traffic. Referral estimates from ChatGPT and other chatbots for any domain.
  • Sentiment and citation analysis on every package.

Where it falls short

  • 1 user on every package.
  • 3 months of history on the entry plan.
  • Claude, Copilot and Grok show up in traffic data only, not in visibility monitoring.

User reviews

Similarweb's reviews cover its traffic and market data, and we couldn't find any about AI Brand Visibility, so we have no quotes to share.

Pricing

  • AEO Intelligence: $129/month, or $99 billed yearly, for 150 prompts and 1 user
  • AEO, SEO and Competitive Intel: $399/month, or $333 billed yearly
  • AEO, SEO, Ads and Competitive Intel: $649/month, or $542 billed yearly, with 6 months of history
  • Every package has a free trial.

12. Knowatoa: best budget pick with writing agents

Knowatoa is an AI search monitoring tool whose $59 Starter plan watches ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode, with AI agents on every plan, which suits small teams that want monitoring plus help drafting content. We haven't used Knowatoa ourselves, so this section is based on its pricing page, docs and update notes.

Starter includes competitor visibility gaps, the sites AI models cite most and brand sentiment alerts. Its docs say answers update daily, and you also get a weekly digest of what changed. Since June 2026 you can switch an account to a monthly schedule.

The $199 Growth plan opens all 7 services, adding Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Meta AI, plus the API, MCP and Looker Studio. Knowatoa doesn't publish question limits for either plan, so ask before you buy.

The agents are the extra. Sam researches content gaps, Connie drafts articles, and Sophie turns them into LinkedIn and Bluesky posts, with a publishing queue you approve.

Key features

How we picked

Every tool here monitors how AI engines mention your brand, on your prompts or on a prompt index, and shows who else gets named. We checked each vendor's pricing page and docs in November 2026 and compared them on:

  • Starting price, for the cheapest plan that monitors anything.
  • Engines on that plan, and which ones cost extra or need Enterprise.
  • Prompts on that plan, and how many checks that really buys.
  • Refresh rate, from daily to monthly.
  • Sentiment and citations, so you see how you're described and which sources AI uses.
  • How answers are collected, since the real interface shows what people see.
  • What it does with the findings, from reports to agents that do the work.

How to tell if an AI monitoring tool's numbers are real

AI answers are unstable by design. Before you trust any dashboard, check four things.

  • Does it read the real interface or call an API? In Surfer's study of August 2026 data across five AI products, the brands named in API answers and interface answers overlapped only 15.5% to 23.8%. ChatGPT's interface also cited 12.1 sources per answer, against 3.1 through the API.
  • Does it report a rate, not a single run? SparkToro and Gumshoe ran 12 prompts 60 to 100 times each in ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI. Two answers had the same brand list less than 1 time in 100, but in 994 headphone answers the top brands still appeared 55% to 77% of the time, Search Engine Journal reported. Share of answers over many runs is the number to watch.
  • How often does it refresh? Ahrefs found AI Overview content changes about every 2 days, so weekly data misses most of it.
  • Does it track each engine separately? Ahrefs found AI Overviews and AI Mode cite the same URLs only 13.7% of the time. Winning one doesn't mean you're winning the other.

Which AI search monitoring tool should you choose?

  • You want monitoring plus agents that act on it on their own: Orchly.
  • You want clean daily data with unlimited seats: Peec AI.
  • You're on a tight budget: Otterly.AI.
  • You're a large enterprise: Profound.
  • Your SEO already runs on Semrush: the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit.
  • You want to research a whole category without writing prompts: Ahrefs Brand Radar.
  • You care how AI crawlers read your site: Scrunch.
  • You want many engines in one dashboard: AthenaHQ.
  • You want AI Overviews next to organic rankings: ZipTie.
  • You track several brands on one budget: SE Visible.
  • You want AI referral traffic for you and competitors: Similarweb.
  • You want cheap monitoring plus drafting agents: Knowatoa.

Whatever you pick, judge it on the trend over a few weeks, not on one run.
